Privacy policy

Last updated 18 October 2026

This explains what Didge keeps about you, why we keep it, who can see it and how to ask us for it back. It is written in plain words. We do not sell your personal information.

Who we are

Didge is run by Didge Group Pty Ltd, trading as Didge Life ("Didge", "we" and "us"). We handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, and we follow them in everything below.

To ask about any of this, write to hello@didgelife.com.

If you join the list on this website

Didge is not open yet. If you put your email address in the box on our landing page, this is exactly what happens.

What we collect

The code

We email you a 6-digit code to check the address is yours. The code works for 15 minutes and once. If you ask for a new code, up to three recent codes work, so a second device does not cancel the first. Wrong tries are limited to 5, and we store codes only in scrambled form. The email is sent for us by Amazon Web Services.

What we do not collect

When someone joins the list we keep a short-lived technical record, for 24 hours, to stop duplicate and abusive requests. It holds scrambled identifiers only, a hashed form of the network address and of the request, and then it is deleted. It is not added to your entry on the list and we do not use it for anything else.

Who can see the list

Only Didge staff who sign in to our admin console, and only in the owner and operations roles. The owner can also download the list and delete an address. Operations can see the list but cannot download or delete it. Every download and deletion is logged, and the log of a deletion does not keep the address.

What we use it for

To email you when Didge opens near you, and to understand roughly how many people are waiting and where they heard about us. You can ask us to take you off the list at any time, and every email we send about Didge will let you unsubscribe.

If you use the Didge app

What we collect

Photos

Your photos are yours. We store them so you can see them in your Story, and so you can download them. A selfie is just a photo. We never match your face to anything, and Didge has no face recognition.

Location

The app uses your location while it is open, to show places near you and to check you are inside a place's circle when you collect a moment. It never reads your location in the background. We do not keep your exact position. A custom moment stores the pin you set rounded to about 11 metres, and the nearest town, so we can show it on your map. The map picture for it is stored encrypted. Looking around Didge as a guest is free and needs no account, and nothing you do as a guest is kept with your name.

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe and are never stored by Didge. We keep a record of what you paid, when, and for what, because we need it to give you a receipt and to keep our financial records.

Real Ones

Real Ones are people you choose to collect with. If you share your contact card with a Real One, they see the fields you chose to share, and you can take them back whenever you like. A moment someone collects with you keeps the details you had shared at that time.

Charities and operators

Charities and the places listed on Didge see totals, not you.

What we use it for

We do not sell your personal information.

Who sees it

Only you, unless you share a postcard. Charities and the places listed on Didge see totals, not you. Our service providers handle information for us only so we can run Didge. We share information with others only when the law requires it, or when you ask us to.

Service providers and overseas

We use Amazon Web Services to host Didge and to send email, and Stripe to take payments. Some of these providers handle information outside Australia, including in the United States. We choose providers that protect information to a standard we are comfortable with, and we give them only what they need to do their job.

How long we keep it and how we protect it

We keep your waitlist entry until you ask us to delete it, or until we no longer need it to tell you about Didge. We keep your account and moments while your account stays open. When you close your account we delete what we do not have to keep. Financial records are kept for 7 years, as the law requires.

Information is held on secured servers, passwords are stored only in scrambled form, and only the staff who need it can reach it. If we ever have a data breach that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will tell you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. In the app you can download your data, correct it, delete a photo or close your account yourself, whenever you like. For the waitlist, or for anything you cannot do in the app, write to hello@didgelife.com from the address you want dealt with. We may need to check it is you before we act. There is no charge to ask.

Children

You must be 16 or over to have a Didge account, and the waitlist is for people 16 or over too. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 16 we may close it. If you think a child has given us their details, write to us and we will delete them.

Questions and complaints

If you have a question or a complaint about how we have handled your information, write to hello@didgelife.com. We will reply in writing. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy we change the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use what you have already given us, we will email you first.
